Me: Wasn't Andre the Giant in an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man? Wasn't he a robot??
David: Bigfoot. But a robot Bigfoot, so you aren't totally wrong.
Online conversation confirmed this, while also adding the detail that Robot Bigfoot was built by aliens. Television in the 1970s was amazingly dumb.
Adjusted for inflation, today the Six Million Dollar Man would be the 43.3 Million Dollar Man. That still seems too low, in a world where venture capitalists threw $120 million at the Juicero.
I signed up for another "it's technically a dating app but we pinky-swear you can also meet people for platonic relationships" app. I clicked all the boxes (male, female, non-binary) but so far have been served a steady stream of mediocre white men (there was one guy who I think was biracial) who also claim to be just be looking for friendship. But once you dig deeper into their bios you find stuff like "looking for a soulmate to help raise my kids". Pass on all of that. (Oh, and seconds after signing up I immediately got DM'd by a bunch of Indian dudes who were either bridehunting or outright scammers. I have since changed the parameters to "local only".) I'll probably cancel it once the initial 90 days for $15 trial expires.
Maybe I'll try Bumble For Friends again. I never really gave that a chance because I signed up right before Covid put the kibosh on in-person meetups for a while. But I remember it did actually show me women as well as men, and it did feel like most people really were looking for platonic and not romantic connections. Probably because original Bumble is an actual dating app, so there's no need to be coy about what you're looking for. If you want romance (or just a hookup), you'd just be on Bumble, you wouldn't bother with BFF.
In other news, I decided to try the mushroom gummies from Binoid. They're microdose gummies so I don't expect much--unless I take half the bottle, but I probably won't do that--but eh. I'm curious and I had a lot of points so it was practically free.
