David texted me yesterday afternoon that the a/c had stopped putting out cool air upstairs. Whenever I see David has texted me I get a stress reaction, because I have PTSD from years of him texting me terrible news; I'd say it's roughly half of his texts, and the other half are memes or lines from old movies that we've been quoting at each other since the 1980s. I guess that's actually "TSD", since it's ongoing.
Occasionally it's weirdly belligerent compliments of my cooking.

Anyway, I won't bore you with the details. It just needed some light servicing (more freon, cleaning the outside units), probably because the WEEKS AND WEEKS AND WEEKS OF UNRELENTING RECORD-SETTING HEAT means it's been running full-bore all summer. I've been kind of expecting this to happen; usually it only needs servicing once a summer, but it happened really early this year (May) and see above about the record-setting heat.
I mean, a personal benchmark for how hot it's been this summer is I've actually been wearing short sleeves and leaving the house with bare legs. I have a personal fashion style that makes people who don't know me think I'm either originally from someplace like Maine or Alaska, or a Muslim or an Orthodox Jew who doesn't bother with covering my hair. (Or an Orthodox Jew who wears a fantastically expensive wig... there's a few of those on Phil's side of the family, and they don't like me because I will openly roll my eyes at their adherence to the letter and not the spirit of the law.) It's got nothing to do with religion, I just prefer to be dressed modestly. I like thick tights or even wearing leggings under dresses or skirts; I like loose clothing; I like to wear long sleeves under short-sleeved or sleeveless tops. Most of the time, it's more comfortable for me.
I didn't sleep well last night because I kept waking up and immediately thinking the a/c didn't sound right, or it wasn't cycling on/off the way it should be, or it wasn't cool enough or it was too cool. That's just how my stupid anxiety works, it floats around until it finds something even slightly plausible to focus on, then it clamps onto whatever it is like a starving dog on a pork chop and just keeps chewing on it.

We had our Islamic Food & Nutrition Council audit at the Crowley facility this week, and a few different people who were there have told me I was singled out by the auditor as "probably the best and most efficient customer we have". She said that whenever she's wondering if she has time for one more halal certification request, if she sees one from me she knows she can process it fast because I always send everything they need the first time.
So that was nice to hear, but also made me wonder why people bother to send a request with missing information. You're going to have to provide it anyway, when they tell you they can't process the request without (X). You're just wasting everyone's time, including your own.

I'm sure we all had several good laughs yesterday watching the mug shots roll out of Fulton County, GA. But the photo that made me laugh the hardest was this guy following Giuliani around with a sign reading CLOWN CAR COUP.

I've said this so much that I will probably blurt it out with my dying breath, but YOU COULD HAVE JUST RETIRED AFTER YOU TERMED OUT AS MAYOR, RUDY.
Look, my brother lived in New York City for years, a period that included the Giuliani years and 9/11. Every time I say that, someone will invariably pop in with YEAH BUT HE DID [FILL IN THE BLANK WITH WRONG THING] AS MAYOR. I'm not claiming Guiliani was perfect or that NYC was some kind of utopia under his benevolent rule. And a lot of the crime stuff he gets credit for would have happened anyway. (Malcolm Gladwell is full of shit.) But I'm talking about his legacy. It could have been "brought the Mafia severely to heel and saw the city through the worst crisis it's ever experienced". Instead it's going to be... this. That photo of him with hair dye melting down his face is literally going to be in history books.
