So I guess another wacko shot at the President. Seems like a weird coincidence that he was attending the White House Correspondent's Association dinner for the first time, and Congress just told him he can't have his gaudy ballroom unless there's a "security need" for it.
However, a lot of people hate the President, and this country is awash in guns.
The funniest thing about it was the photo of Stephen Miller using his heavily pregnant wife as a human shield. Is that why they want more women to have babies??
Saturday I went to Walmart after breakfast to look for a pair of sandals, but everything looked like prison-issue shower sandals. (They had some decent flip flops, but I only wear those on the beach.) I guess I'll look at Target; I don't want to hear about how "we" are boycotting Target. "We" do not pay my bills and "we" do not all live in the rural south where options are extremely limited. It's not like I love giving my money to the Walton family or Jeff Bezos, either.
I went to the gas station and the grocery store, and when I got home I made a batch of dog treats. I went online to get a couple of things, some eau de parfum from Boyd's of Texas--supposedly Pedro Pascal wears High Desert, I got the sample set of all 5 fragrances, which are all gender neutral--and a poster print from a local painter I discovered via TikTok. "Abbeville red irises", FYP is getting way too local!
Abbeville red irises are a stable hybrid of 3 different iris varieties that only naturally occur in a single swamp in Vermilion Parish, although I hear they started planting them in Palmetto State Park. Irises should be the state flower of Louisiana; I love magnolias but they are not unique to Louisiana--they're also the state flower of Mississippi!--and don't have the same meaning for the state as irises. I mean the fleur-de-lis is a stylized iris, Louisiana was a French colony, irises are predominate in the many bayous and swamps.
I folded some towels and made ice, and after dinner (leftovers), I watched a couple more episodes of The Expanse, which I started watching last week.
Sunday I had planned to make doughnuts for breakfast, which I hadn't made in a while, since finishing the baked doughnut cookbook. I was just going to start over with pumpkin spice doughnuts. But between the dog treats and cake I planned to make--which started with a box mix but still had a lot of steps--I decided that was enough baking. I had taken a loaf of sourdough out of the freezer the day before, so I made breakfast sandwiches.
After showering I changed the bed sheets, vacuumed my bedroom, did some laundry, and baked a strawberry crunch poke cake. You know those ice cream bars that are vanilla with a strawberry center and the outside covered in cookie crumbs? This was like a cake version of that: a white cake with holes poked in it and strawberry Jello poured over the top, a layer of whipped cream/cream cheese frosting (homemade), then a top of golden Oreos ran through the food processor with another package of strawberry Jello and some melted butter.
It sounds weird and it kind of is, but it tastes fantastic.
I didn't have any dinner prep, so in the afternoon I finished reading Old Soul, which was well written and creepy but had a real bummer end. I started Patrick Radden Keefe's newest, London Falling; he's one of those writers that I will immediately buy without waiting for a price drop.
Supper was a chicken cobbler with cheddar biscuit topping, then I watched a couple more episodes of The Expanse.
I also spent a good bit of the weekend working on collages; something made me drag out the book of southwest photography and the gigantic (outdated; it still listed Pluto as a planet) space atlas I bought at the library sale last summer and start playing around with them last week.

I like some of these more than others, but the most important thing about art is to just make it.
